There are many things that 4-H participants have to do as preparation for the fair. Hoof trimming, halter breaking, hair cutting... But one of the most important tasks actually has nothing to do with the animals.
It's driving around and visiting trusted businesses and companies, giving them information about the fair, and inviting them to attend. We explain how the fair can benefit them through tax write-offs and advertising. Most of the buyers at the fair are, in fact, companies, and it's important to build relationships with them so that the sale can be a success for everybody.
Today, our 4-H club did just that, delivering brochures (designed by 4-H) and flyers (designed by myself) to a number of businesses that we've had dealings with in years past. We also went to a few that we've never approached before, which was a good lesson in being professional and courteous.
We had a pretty big list of people we wanted to invite, so today we split up and covered as much as we could.
Kaylee and I visited these companies today:
- Post Asphalt & Construction
- Day's Advanced Automotive (We delivered a Certificate of Appreciation to Day's, since they so kindly boosted Kaylee and Bryson last year!)
- Staker Parsons
- CAL Ranch Stores
- Boman & Kemp Steel
- Recreation Outlet
- Sparrow's Home Furnishings (Sparrow's has never attended the fair before this year, so hopefully we left a good enough impression to catch their interest!)
- Chad's Plumbing & Sprinkling
- Herrick Industrial Supply
- Wadman Corporation — We're sorry that we missed you today, but Tyler isn't the best at finding addresses. Don't worry, we'll come over soon!
Meanwhile, Jason and Bryson dropped in on these businesses:
- Ogden Marriott
- Winco Foods
- Sizzler
- Golden Corral
- Edge Products
- Center Point Theater
- Bank of Utah
- Jeremiah's Restaurant
- Impact Guns (Bryson: "Thanks for the good hunting tip!")
As always, we want to thank our great community for all of the support they give us. There's not enough room on this blog for all of the gratitude we feel. Thank you!
